Under the creative direction of Christianne L. Smith, DesignsmithStudio is a multidisciplinary design firm specializing in the development of graphic images and materials to support product and company branding, as well as print, web and architectural design. The company’s industry experience ranges from the technology, biotechnology, healthcare and financial sectors to non-profit institutions and performing arts and academic centers.

Designsmith Studio has designed corporate identity programs – ranging from stationery to signage – and websites for Portland Professional Pharmacy, Mission Critical Linux, Inc., Skidmore College, Essentia Gift Shop, Elytics E-business, Advanced Reproductive Care, Smart Fitness Gym, NeuCo Inc. and Chiropractic for Kids and Beyond. The firm has also developed collateral materials including brochures, posters and advertising campaigns for a number of clients including Brandeis University Life Sciences, Altus Biologics, Boston University School of Medicine, BioChem Pharma, Fertility Physicians of Northern California and Dav El Chauffeured Transportation Network.


Prior to establishing Designsmith Studio in 2000, Christianne has held several senior design positions in New York and Boston, including Chermayeff & Geismar in New York City, where she developed campaigns for a number of major performing arts clients and corporations, including the International Society for Performing Arts, Lincoln Center Programs, Mobil Oil, Alvin Ailey Dance Company, National Building Museum, New 42nd Street Inc., New York Public Library, World Policy Journal and ShowTime. In collaboration with other graphic design studios (Frankfurt Balkind Partners, Inc., Carbone Smolan Associates, Vignelli Associates, Troller Associates), she created campaigns for The San Francisco Ballet, Knight Ridder, PBS and Mustang Jeans.

As art director at Fassino Design in Boston, Christianne managed a number of award winning programs for several biotechnology companies, industry organizations and financial institutions, as well as universities and major medical centers. A few of the many include The Massachusetts Biotechnology Council, Health Care Systems Management, Central Bank, Image Point and Lotus Educational Software.

Christianne was also on the faculty of the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston for over four years and is currently teaching graphic design at the College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY. Christianne’s courses include Introduction to Graphic Design, Typography, Graphic Design Applications, Design in the Real World and The Synthesis of Typography and Photographic Image.

Christianne has won numerous honors and awards for her work, including the Mobil Oil Award of Merit and an honorary showing at The Albany Museum, NY. She studied graphic design and communications at Alfred University, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
